This online course is designed to help support your development over a longer period in a combination of small group workshops and bespoke 1-2-1 learning. As the title suggests, you will be encouraged to develop a project to work on over the course, perhaps a panel of images, a book or exhibition.
This course can be a standalone workshop but it is also a natural compliment to our location and skill based workshops and will help you to apply the ideas learned to your own work over a longer period.
Rachael and Adrian have very different styles and approaches and this will add breadth to your experience. They are both experienced in supporting photographers across a wide variety of genres. We believe it is vital that you are empowered to create work in your style, not someone else’s. Adrian and Rachael are passionate about helping photographers find their own, unique voice.
Small group workshops
The core of this workshop will be 6 half day workshops, one every month or two. You will be part of a small class (maximum 6) and work with Adrian and Rachael on your own computer. You will receive a video of the live sessions so you can concentrate on doing and understanding rather than writing.
These sessions are designed to help you improve your artistic and creative skills in a small and enthusiastic group. Each workshop will be a combination of presentations and exercises organised by Adrian and Rachael and the presentation of your own work and progress. You will be encouraged to bring work to each session for the group to review.
The social dynamic of these groups is a hugely important part and seeing the work of others is very inspiring. Equally, receiving and giving feedback as part of a group will help you to understand your own work. At each session, you will be able to share your work, and give and receive constructive comments. Each month, based on the workshop and your 1-2-1 (see below), we will set you some things to work on for the next session.
Between each group session, you will also have a one-hour 1-2-1 session with Rachael or Adrian (three hours with each during the full course). You will be able to use that time to help you with anything related to your photography, for example: reviewing and selecting your photographs, processing, printing, creative ideas, exhibiting or publishing. Whatever your goals, Rachael and Adrian will help you towards them.
